A beaded silver disc at the ear, then a rectangular panel of open filigree with a deep lapis-blue cabochon set at its centre, and beneath it a fluted jhumka fringed with pearls. The filigree is cut so light passes right through the panel, which is the whole trick of it. Openwork like this was how Deccan silversmiths kept a large earring light enough to wear all evening. Wear them with a high neck and nothing at the throat. Worn by women who were never meant to blend in.

How to style it
Lapis blue lifts black, ivory and camel, and looks especially good against raw silk. Keep the neckline closed and the neck bare so the panel reads cleanly. Hair up so the filigree catches light from the side. Wear them to festive evenings, receptions and dinners you dress for.
